Mar. 17-Mar. 24 Research

Icebergs do not exist only in the part above sea level; on the contrary, it is below sea level that most of the icebergs are found.

So to create this effect, I placed acrylic ice cubes and crumbs of rubber at the very bottom of the mold. Then it was covered with resin. Finally, the resin-soaked wool felt was placed on the top layer.

This way after the resin molding we can see the transparent acrylic ice and rubber ice crumbs from the side of the finished product, and the overall effect becomes an ice layer on top and an ice cube at the bottom.

Learning from last time's lesson, I did not pour the fluorescent solution directly into the resin this time, but first made a base layer with resin at the bottom and then applied the fluorescent solution on top, but I had a hard time spreading the fluorescent solution evenly on the resin. Finally I poured another layer of resin in the top layer to fix the fluorescent liquid flowing in the middle.

I poured the color essence into the clear resin, but did not mix it evenly. I tried to create an aurora-like shape in this way.

I mixed glitter with resin to create a star effect, but I thought it was too "commercialized" and lost the natural feel I was looking for. Maybe I can put less next time.

I tried to put halo dye essence in the resin to get the color contained in the starry sky.

The combination of resin and shell pieces.

Last time I tried to mix pearlescent powder with resin, then I found that all the pearlescent powder settled to the bottom of the resin. This time I mixed the pearlescent powder with a few drops of resin, and then after making a base layer with the resin the combination of pearlescent powder and resin was smeared in a thin layer on top of the resin. This way the pearlescent powder will not settle down.

Again, a base layer was made of resin, and then cotton and wool felt were unevenly torn apart and glued on top of the resin with glue. To create the effect of clouds.

I covered the cotton and clay thoroughly with resin and wanted to see if there was a cloud effect. Then I realized it was perhaps more like an iceberg.

I found your first iceberg sample to be quite successful, I wonder how you could possibly break the confines of your rectangular mold. I'd really like to see a very iceberg shaped piece that uses that technique

This blog seems to be like a working notebook for your resin experiments- which is really valuable during the research stage. If you achieve a result you are happy with- make sure you record everything so that you can duplicate it in the future. My favorite (at least through photos) is the 'halo dye essence'- in these the color and luminance has a beautiful and nature-seeming effect. I think the very last photo/sample also has some potential- showing the sandwich of the different layers sort of reminds me of 'strata' and how layers of nature/earth/sediment build up. Do you have any sketches/deign ideas how you will incorporate the concept of above and below in icebergs, or will this be conveyed…
