Mar. 24-Mar. 31 Research

The resin design/pattern in the "iceberg" and "starry sky" has achieved the effect I want, but the "clouds" in the sky still doesn't have the effect I want. So this time I tried to make "clouds" again.

Round 1:

I placed a pile of white acrylic on top of the already formed resin and then put a thin layer of wool felt.

Then it changed from a "cloud" to an "iceberg". I failed again :<

Round 2:

Still with the resin already formed, I put a layer of white clay on top this time to try to create the effect of clouds.

And then.... Seems like a thick layer of snow after a snowfall.

Round 3:

Still a layer of molded resin. I laid a layer of white latex on top and then used a hair dryer to blow it out of shape to try to make a thin layer of cloudy feel. It seems to have failed again.

Round 4:

I started thinking about what the problem was. The most important characteristics of clouds are soft (fluffy) and white. So the one that best fits these characteristics is cotton. But the combination of cotton and resin always turns into a crumbly effect. And I don't really want to expose all the cotton to the resin.

I suddenly thought of white color essence- I added the white color essence to the resin, stirred well and soaked the cotton in the resin, then fished it out and dried it, so that the cotton was covered with a layer of white resin, and then put the cotton into the resin will not become ice floes.

Yay! It's still white, it just doesn't look like a cloud in shape. So I made a new one and shaped the "cloud". But I didn't finish it yet, so it's only a half-finished work.

Some other attempts/samples.

Starry sky

After the success of the last combination of pearlescent powder and resin, I tried to make other kinds of pearlescent powder and poured a layer of transparent resin or resin with a light purple color on top.

Ohh yea- really enjoy seeing your process this week- I believe you are getting closer and closer to the illusion you are seeking. Don't forget you can also carve into the back of your resin samples with a large ball bur and pack color or material from behind and fill up with more resin- for a feeling of depth from the front.
